Minor Confluential Activity at Alton Towers, UK: Apparitions

A ghost of a Lady in a long black dress has been seen walking the corridors in Alton Towers, her presence is often accompanied by a strong smell of perfume. One member of staff believed her to be a guest who was still in the park after hours and asked her to leave. The woman slowly faded away in front of him, much to the staff member's surprise.

Alton Towers is a theme park and resort located in the grounds of a former stately home in Staffordshire, England. It attracts around 2.8 million visitors per year. Alton Towers is the 11th most visited theme park in Europe. It is based north of the village of Alton in Staffordshire (approximately 16 miles (26 km) east of Stoke-on-Trent), in the grounds of a semi-ruined gothic revival country house of the same name, the former seat of the Earls of Shrewsbury.

The estate dates back to before 1000 BC, when an iron age fort was built in the area, known as Bunbury Hill. In circa 700, the estate became the site of a fortress, for the Saxon king Ceolred of Mercia. A castle was built soon after the Norman Conquest, but the date of its erection is unknown. In the 1100s, the estate passed to Bertram de Verdun, as a reward for his work in the Crusades. In 1318, the estate passed by marriage to Thomas de Furnival, when he married Joan de Verdun. It passed again in 1406, to Sir John Talbot, when he married Maud, the eldest daughter of Lord Furnival. He became the Earl of Shrewsbury in 1442, a title that had been resurrected after being forfeited by the third earl in 1102. The old castle was destroyed during the English Civil War.

So now that we know--or think we know-- what a Confluence is...

Now that you know the fundamentals of the confluence, the purpose of this site is to track "confluential activity," or in simpler terms, areas where a concentration of paranormal, supernatural, or parascientific phenomena have been reported.

However it is important to not only track that activity, but to map it as well for further analysis by the Office of Independent Research and Analyses' analytical branch.

What is a confluence, and why should we give a bloody Hell?

A confluence is, simply put, a crossroads of supernatural activity; an area of spiritual conflict within the greater War of Good Versus Evil. The Earth is spotted with thousands of minor (or roaming) confluences, but only twelve major (or fixed) confluences.

A minor confluence can occur spontaneously whenever spiritual conflict breaks through to the corporeal plane. These usually manifest in unusual supernatural occurrences for a short period of time, including ghost sightings, poltergeist activity, or the appearance of physical omens. A major confluence, however, is firmly tied to a specific geographic area on a seemingly permanent basis.

An area of major confluence represented an erosion of the veil between the spiritual and the physical caused by eons of conflict that has weakened the barrier. Within areas of major confluence, the distinction between the supernatural and the natural are so blurred as to result in ongoing mystical activity. This could mean such a skewed version of reality and normalcy as to boggle the human mind.

Witnesses in some areas of major confluence have reported the suspension of scientific principles, the manifestation of demonic entities, and even physical attacks from across the spiritual threshold.
